Incremental steps towards HTML

We've got our first steps towards integrated HTML now. A pretty new help system (albeit built on a rather odd looking content management system). Still. Pretty. Works well, is responsive. Some of the text in the help system isn't.....right. But that should be a matter of hours or days.

I can hardly wait to see what we get next :) The integrated browser is spiffy enough with help text. Imagine it with llLoadURL()!

But make it work with my mousewheel, darn it!

Febrile thoughts

When you're a bit feverish and cut off from SL (bandwidth caps - refer to this here) what do you think about?

  • You help a friend who's in trouble.
  • You wish you were back at work in your Second Life.
  • You find other ways to coordinate on your projects.
  • You sleep.
  • You wish you hadn't had to cancel your meetings.
  • You savour the taste of watermelon.
  • You read a little.
  • You wish you were back at work in your Second Life.
  • You play with art.
  • You take a lot of painkillers.
  • You do some research.
  • You wish you were back at work in your Second Life.
  • You look for something to eat.
  • You refit a server.
  • You wish you were back at work in your Second Life.
All in all, a pretty quiet day.

And there it is! We're back! I'm on the air! I'm online!

And Second Life is getting upgraded.

Nuts.

A little more sleep won't kill me, I think. I wonder if there's something to eat...

Live panels

Mmm. And now I have a snapzilla live panel of my own. Perhaps this will encourage me to actually post more snaps - something I've always been a little forgetful about.

Thanks to Torley for spotting this.

Learning from History

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
- Santana

"Thank you graciously ... for this tremendous resource."
- Torley
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."
- Hegel
Who are you going to listen to? William Hegel? Or Torley and Santana?

Go visit the SL History Wiki. Read it. Enjoy it. Contribute to it.

Still here? Shoo!

Carry on up the flexible prims

While I was out on the preview grid I was collided with from behind by a rather singular avatar. A purple tentacle beast whose flexible, diverse and manifold attributes can only be best described as *ahem* mature.

On the plus side, he was most civil and apologetic, and hastened off, a little embarassed, I think. I didn't think at the time to record his name. Certainly a lot of care, attention, detail and ... err.. love had been invested into the work.

Buy a girl a drink next time, honey, okay? ;)

Tatarot - revised

I was lucky enough to land five minutes with Philip Linden, and I was able to replace the image on The Emperor with a better shot.

And with that, the Tatarot is truly complete. Updated versions of this card will go on display at Linda's Mall and Fatum Castle.

Patterns

Patterns are the core of the human mind. The mind is the best tool available for recognising patterns. It's so very good at it, that it's quite possible to see patterns, even when they aren't there.

The mind will keenly match a pattern based on the flimsiest pieces, and respond appropriately. Even if the pattern it sees is not actually there.

That's why we see a flower in a screen full of static. Horses in the clouds. Elvis in the rust-spots on your fridge. The saint of your choice on a piece of toast.

There are other patterns, too. Patterns of rejection, of low self-esteem, perhaps abuse and failure. Patterns so deeply familiar to us from repetition that sometimes it's hard to see things in any other way.

Look after your fellow residents. Your fellow people. They may not always see the same things in the same way as you do. Our experiences and our expectations are different, and each of us sees ourselves least clearly.

I may not know much about art...

There's another place you can go and see the Tatarot until June 25. Linda's Mall in Chief has made an Art Space for showing resident works. If you've not come to see them yet, head over to Linda's Mall or Fatum Castle. Art exists to be seen :)

The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.

Blush

I'll just be here, hiding under my desk for a while...

After

Sometimes you do something really stupid. Shockingly stupid. You all know how that feels, right? You're virtually paralysed by the sheer boneheaded, stultifying halfwittedness of what you've done.

We're not just talking about locking your keys in the car - although admittedly that's one of the classics. We're talking about making a complete fool of yourself in front of someone whose opinion really matters to you.

You know that one. You screwed up. You know it.

It doesn't matter what you did. It doesn't matter why you did it.

It matters what you do after.

When you see them next. That moment that you're dreading. That you lay awake all night, not knowing what to do or what to say when it came. It's here. It's now.

Start with "I'm sorry."

Because you are, bonehead. You know you were wrong, and avoiding an apology, or trying to make it conditional - well, that's just not going to cut it. Blaming something or someone else isn't going to do it either, because you're just not being true to yourself.

After you mess up, bigger than big, start with "I'm sorry."

That's what I'm going to be doing.

See the Tatarot inworld

Pym Sartre - pictured below has created a gallery to show the 'Tatarot'. If you'd like to see them inworld, then visit Castle Fatum in Steiger.

While you're there, take a look at the amazing job she's done on the castle!
